Problem Note 63625: A null pointer exception occurs and SAS® Management Console stops responding when you select a server object in the Server Manager plug-in

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

Selecting a ServerComponent or a LogicalServer object, such as the object spawner or logical workspace server, within the Server Manager plug-in in SAS Management Console causes SAS Management Console to stop responding. This problem occurs when you are connected to the SAS® Metadata Server via Integrated Windows authentication (IWA). In this scenario, the following message is written to the SASMCErrorLog.txt file:

Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException
                at
com.sas.management.util.MetaServerConnection.getEncodedPassword(MetaServerConnection.java:474)
                at
com.sas.management.util.MetaServerConnection.setPassword(MetaServerConnection.java:373)
                at
com.sas.management.util.MetaServerConnection.<init>(MetaServerConnection.java:236)
...

Note: Refer to SAS Note 43157 for steps to enable debug logging in SAS Management Console. The default folder or directory location of the SASMCErrorLog.txt file depends on the operating system on which you are running the SAS Management Console application.

  • Windows: C:\Users\your-user-ID\AppData\Roaming\SAS\SASManagementConsole\9.x
  • UNIX and Linux: ~/.SASAppData/SASManagementConsole/9.x

This problem prevents you from using certain features to manage servers, such as connecting to the object spawner and validating a logical server.

As a circumvention, connect to the metadata by using your user ID and password credentials.
